As of the Friday, Feb. 15 deadline for bill introductions in the Illinois General Assembly, there are 5,600 bills and counting. Among them is House Bill 255, which would repeal the Rent Control Preemption Act and allow ALL home rule units in the state to impose Rent Control. Illinois REALTORS® Senior Vice President Greg St. Aubin shares the negative impact of rent control on affordable housing including affordable housing shortages and property tax increases.
